Change your current reality by changing your skills

Relationships and careers demand more from us than our fathers before us. Most of us have room to improve our skills in the areas of emotional intelligence, effective communication, stress management, and self-care. Many of us still struggle to learn what we need to do to build our own successful intimate relationship. Our parents did the best they could. Period. However, they had no way to teach us all the skills we’d need in life. Therefore, there may be a few things we can improve on in order to help us find the success we’ve always wanted.

Most guys deal with a variety of issues during the course of their lives. No one is exempt. Our society and culture continue to instill outdated values, expecting men to hide their emotions and put on an invincible warrior front. Toxic masculinity is a widely used term to describe this type of thinking and often leads to strained experiences and relationships. In reality, we’re lonely, and silent. Suffering behind our games and personality armor.

As a man, I know how tough it is to go to friends or family for support. Books, articles, and videos can only do so much. Maybe you’ve considered counseling before. Maybe this time you’re ready to work with a counselor who specializes in working with guys, who only works with guys, and, well, is also a guy himself.

Counseling helps you figure out your own stuff.

I happen to be a clinician who feels that being overly clinical with my clients only puts a wall up between you and me. The thing is, all those technical and clinical terms might as well be a foreign language or even psychobabble, if ultimately you don’t feel comfortable. If the terminology gives you more anxiety, and the thought of going to see a counselor creates an ache in the pit of your stomach, I get it because I’ve been there. I also think that transparency is key in a client/counselor relationship, so I’ll start first. Guess what? I see a counselor myself. Yep! Why? I see a counselor for probably the same reasons you’re on my website now, looking for a counselor, because chances are, I probably have experienced many of the same things that you’re going through right now: Depression. Anxiety. Divorce. Addiction. Grief. Job loss. Parenting. Name your poison
I’ve worked with men for many years and have seen the success of those who come to “guy counseling”. They are finally achieving the results they’ve wanted for years. They now enjoy successful relationships, live more authentically, and experience the rewards of their hard work.
“I don’t have time or money to see a counselor.”
Personal and professional self-development is an investment in time, energy, work, and money. Ask yourself, “What would my life be like without counseling?” “What will it cost me in the end if I don’t at least try?” “Will my relationship or marriage get worse, or possibly end?” “Will I be stuck in my job or career I no longer like? Just like personal or professional training, counseling takes time and effort to see results. There are no short cuts to achieve the changes you imagine for yourself.
“I’m concerned that people will see me as weak, broken, or crazy if I start seeing a therapist.”
There was a time when there was an unfortunate stigma about men who go to therapy, but that is no longer the case. The new reality is that many of us now understand that mental health requires the same attention and care that we give to our physical health. It is no different than people getting annual checkups at their family doctor or having their teeth cleaned twice a year at the dentist. Men who work toward helping themselves and improving their lives are actually the ones who are considered strong and responsible. Unfortunately, guys who choose not to participate in counseling or coaching, often suffer in silence.
“I’ve already tried counseling before, and I don’t think it worked. Would this really be any different?”
Before we start investing time and money into our new therapeutic relationship, I am going to offer you a free consultation. I want to make sure you are comfortable with the process of finding a counselor or coach because I too have been in your shoes of trying to find a new counselor, and to be honest, it’s a pain in the a**. This is your life, your path, your challenges, and your solutions. I am really nothing more than a teacher who has a passion for helping guys to start living their best lives.
